Celebrate Green: Spring Fling @ A New Leaf 4/26

A New Leaf by Olivia Leigh Photography

Green City Market‘s Spring Fling is happening April 26, 6:30 PM @ A New Leaf – and what a perfect place to kick off the season. An enormous celebration of food (naturally there’s gonna be some serious food porn going on), music, all things green, and sustainable, all the while fundraising for GCM education programs! The night will include food from Chicago’s premier chefs, music from “The Locavores” (they’re a band of farmers, ya dig?), and “Sous Chef For A Night” (you know you’ve always dreamed of it), the chance for four winners to pair up with participating chefs (like Bruce Sherman from North Pond, and Jared Van Camp from Nellcôte and Old Town Social) and create their own seasonal, local, sustainable canapé. Spring Fling also will have a silent and live auction, where you can win awesome goodies like the chance to work in the kitchen at Charlie Trotter’s for the day and dinner at Rick Bayless‘ home for 8 guests- NO JOKE. Talk about goodies! Check out all the info you need to know, i.e. pricing, further deets, and other chefs, here. Buy your tickets: call 773.880.1266 or email admin@greencitymarket.org. This event will be held at A New Leaf’s 1820 N. Wells location.

In case you didn’t know -> Green City Market‘s outdoor season is almost upon us. This means amazing amazing programs, events, and (GREEN) goodness you’ve got to check out. Get your dose of green? Remember that Green City Market’s indoor market runs from January through April on Saturdays (get more details here).

It’s never too early to start thinking about summer. Even in March! Starting in May, Green City Market will feature a Savor the Season Tasting Series – a program that will happen monthly, and aims to promote market products in their peak seasons. The tasting will offer a number of products to try, all to educate shoppers on local produce, what to know and how to pick. You can also see the featured peak season product highlighted in the chef demo that will happen that day. BONUS DIRT: you get take-home materials w/ tips, techniques, and info. Here’s the monthly schedule: May 23 = Lettuce Fest; June 20 = Strawberry Fest; July 25 = Carrot Fest; August 22 = Tomato Fest; September 26 = Apple Fest; and October 24 = Squash Fest. Check out GreenCityMarket.org for more info.
