One of the best events of the year is next week folks! Get down while giving back, mingling and eating sushi at Roka Akor July 25. The third annual Summer Soiree benefits The Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation, an organization near and dear to our hearts. Thank you to our media sponsor, Chicago Sun Times, for your coverage!!
Check out Sun Times coverage here: Over its 27 years of existence, the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation has raised more than $25 million in the search of a cure for breast cancer. 94 percent of all funds donated to the foundation support the understanding, research and treatment of breast cancer. Each year, more than 60,000 mammograms are performed at the Lynn Sage Breast Screening Center and the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center. Through high-profile events that attract hundreds of socially connected women, this charity makes an impact! With efforts to reach younger donors, the foundation will host its third annual Summer Soiree 7/25 at Roka Akor.
“Breast cancer affects everyone, young and old, and we want to make sure that we are cultivating the next generation of leaders from all age ranges who are going to guide the organization,” said Stephanie Lieber, chairman of the foundation’s board. The nearly sold-out event is expected to exceed 200 attendees who will “toast the town and light the city pink” July 25 at Roka Akor, 456 N. Clark. Foundation board members say they will try to speak to every guest and answer questions.
“It’s a social event but also informative,” said returning event co-chair and executive board member Joanna Aaron. Roka Akor’s Sake and Shochu Lounge will serve as the backdrop for guests sampling a signature cocktail, the “Pink Ribbon,” created exclusively for the event. In addition, guests can nosh on dumplings, maki, sushi rolls and skewers. According to Aaron, the foundation has already doubled what they raised last year and, “we are just dollars away from hitting our goal of $20,000 for the event.”
Additionally, each October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the foundation is responsible for lighting the city pink. More than 140 buildings throughout Chicago, as well as taxi cabs and buses, adopt the color for their annual “Light the Way to Find a Cure” campaign. “There are lots of ways to get involved and to be active, in small ways and big ways,” Lieber said.
Dedicated to the courageous spirit of Lynn Sage, the Foundation supports innovative contributions to the understanding, research and treatment of breast cancer, in partnership with Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Robert H.Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
