Publican Quality Meats by Scott Manlin

Chef Paul Kahan tweeted Publican Quality Meats will now serve burgers and we’re salivating already. Beginning May 1, PQM serves up their first burger night. One thing we KNOW for sure, we expect juicy burgers. Hopefully George Motz will hit this joint on his next Chi trip so we know the low down from the true burger expert himself… Until then, we’ll juuuust have to sample the goods ourselves. 312.445.8977. 825 W. Farm-to-table is here to stay . Chefs and restos across the city have been promoting and devising ways to bring food, farmers, and us urban-dwellers closer together for a while now. A new team of chefs have started a community called Ground Up, a “chef farmer community,” that aims to encourage farmer / chef collabs – and more than 12 of Chicago’s chefs have signed up already. So what can you do to help? Ground Up is hosting it’s first fundraising event Monday, April 9 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Spacca Napoli, and it’s first program (an indoor farmer’s market) at Browntrout on May 1. The program will benefit small family farms who provide to us right here in the Chi. The fundraiser in April will feature tastings from restos like Anteprima, Browntrout, C-House, Floriole, MK, The Bedford, Vincent and Wood, as well as vendors from Mess Hall & Co., Rich Chocolates, Las Manas, Rare Tea Cellar, and Green Grocer. Also – a silent auction with items from chefs like Stephanie Izard and Heather Terhune. Grab your tickets here! Get involved and go local!

Owner of Franks ‘n Dawgs, Alexander Brunacci, is gearing up to bring us a second restaurant – and no doubt flavors will blow minds. Brunacci will be sticking to the same street food / fine dining flavors for his new project called The Peasantry while adding a additional menu items. The Peasantry is scheduled to open in May, and although there is no set menu yet, get these ideas in your naughty food porn mind: gyros made from ingredients like baby octopus, duck, or venison; duck wings prepared in buffalo-wing style; escargots; frog legs; grilled flatbreads; and house-made pastas. If this isn’t even the full menu yet, can you just IMAGINE what we’ve got in store? Word has it that a few of Franks ‘n Dawgs signature items (the house made sausages and lobster-roll bun) will transfer over to The Peasantry. What to expect: table service, a possible liquor license, and reasonably priced original food. Can not wait. 2723 N. Clark St.

Apple News: iPad 4G Released Next Week: March 16th, 2012

Last time you heard about the iPad 3 from us, we were gushing over the screen and calling it the “iPad 3.” Well, first of all, the must-have item will officially be available in 10 countries on March 16, and second of all, it is not being called the “iPad 3,” it’s now being called “The New iPad.” Prices will be identical to those of the iPad 2, Wi-Fi-only tablets: $499, $599, and $699 for the 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions, respectively. 4G LTE connectivity: $629, $729, and $829 for the 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB editions, not including carrier costs. Apart from being the first Apple device to have 4G LTE capability, the “retina display” is definitely going to be the new iPad’s key feature, with an absolutely incredible screen to view all the Delicious DIRT food porn (you KNOW you’re going to). Interestingly enough, Apple will continue to make the iPad 2, lowering the starting price to $399 (Wi-Fi version). Check out Apple’s website for all the comparisons and deets on iPad 4G. Oh, Apple, you hold a very special place in our hearts.

Bacon + Donuts = LOVE @DoRiteDonuts

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again! DONUTS ARE THE NEW CUPCAKES. We learned via Grub Street Chicago, that THIS morning @ 6:30 AM, Do-Rite Donuts opened in the Loop, attached to Petterino’s on Randolph. Francis Brennan and Jeff Mahin are the masterminds behind the latest addition to the doughnut line-up, bringing Lettuce Entertain You into the mix. And they’ve got some SERIOUS goodies in store: ranging from “gourmet” doughnuts (peanut butter + jelly + peanut better mousse topping) and “old-fashioned” cake doughnuts (topped with Tahitian vanilla or Valhrona chocolate) –> SO MUCH YUM. Definitely the next stop on our doughnut train. 50 W. Randolph.
