Geja's = #deliciousDIRT

Everyone loves 70’s style #deliciousDIRT especially when it’s fondue @ Geja’s Cafe baby.  Back in ancient times –> 1990′s, Geja’s was our Editor’s go to spot for pre-prom  dinner…um did we say both Freshman + Sophomore year?  Yup. We did.

1991 Pre-Prom + Geja's DD Editor

No wonder the Chicago Reader dubbed this fondue resto the most romantic resto in the Chi…complete with flamenco guitars and cozy booths. Ooohh La La.

Pre-Geja's 1992

So, get your wine and melted cheese on this weekend when you’re looking for somewhere to go on Monday.  Hate that most restos are closed for biz?  Don’t people understand that #PeopleEatOnIndependenceDay?  Geja’s sure does.

Delicious DIRT. Deal

Chicago’s first responders get a fab lunch today. Fleming’s Steakhouse is delivering sandwiches to all those who helped out during our tumultuous blizzard days as a thank you. “…we had butchered steaks for two large private dining events that obviously had to be cancelled. The meat has a short shelf life. We would have to discard it if not used today,” said Curtis Nordeen, Operating Partner of Fleming’s Chicago. Thanks for this delish way to give back.

Our friends at The Feast report that John Manion, chef at West Town spot Branch 27, is moving on to open his own place highlighting Latin influenced cuisine, reflecting his Brazilian background. Read about it here.

Chateau d’Yqem, the revered estate that produces delightful (and expensive) dessert wines, is now pouring at Bob Bob Ricard in by-the-glass portions. This, if you don’t know, is kind of a big deal. Many restaurants don’t carry vaunted wines and vintages by the glass, and Chateau d’Yqem hand selects restaurants to which to serve by-the-glass. Read more here.

    • If some of Chicago’s food nerds had no idea who they’d vote for in the next mayoral election, we’re sure their minds have been changed now: Rahm Emanuel “actually lean(s) towards allowing” food trucks, and he wants to use them to “combat food deserts.” Well, Rahm, we think that’s a novel idea. Read the story here.  So psyched for The Southern’s Mac and Cheese Truck- 4 more days…
    • If you’ve never been to Bray, England’s temple of molecular gastronomy The Fat Duck, well, you’re not the only one. But you may have just a slightly better chance of getting to Heston Blumenthal’s newest spot, Dinner, which opened at the Mandarin Oriental in London two days ago.
    • This is the some of the best news we’ve ever heard: Acclaimed French chefs such as Guy Savoy, Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon have created the Culinary College of France. Can you imagine what brilliant toques will walk out of that school?!
    • Stephanie Izard is still riding the wave of success. She plans publish “Girl in the Kitchen” during the fall, and has already taken cover shots. Read about what she’s doing here.
