Food Film Fest Event 6/9 @ The Glass House

This is a one in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot miss. Join us on June 9 for an unbelievable evening of the perfect pairing of food, film, and modern design. This event will be held at the Phillip Johnson Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut. Built in 1949 as Phillip Johnson’s own residence, it is regarded as a masterpiece in the use of glass, but also extremely important and influential in modern architecture. Like all Food Film Fest events (incredible, duh), you will be treated to some of the most intriguing and relevant food films accompanied by epicurean delights. This time you will also have access to the exquisite 47-acre campus of the Glass House. Starting with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres by Artisan Executive Chef Frederic Kieffer, then onto the film program presented by Festival Director George Motz, this Dine With Design event will be sure to spark your fire. Watch eight short films and eat what you see as seven of them will be including food pairings. Best of all, proceeds will directly benefit the Phillip Johnson Glass House, (a site of The National Trust for Historic Preservation). The New York Times even covered this event, so you know it’s a big deal. Read up on it here. Most importantly, get more information and purchase tickets by clicking here. See you on June 9.

Francis Brennan and Jeff Mahin are the masterminds behind the latest addition to the doughnut line-up, bringing Lettuce Entertain You into the mix. And they’ve got some SERIOUS goodies in store: ranging from “gourmet” doughnuts (peanut butter + jelly + peanut better mousse topping) and “old-fashioned” cake doughnuts (topped with Tahitian vanilla or Valhrona chocolate) –> SO MUCH YUM. Definitely the next stop on our doughnut train. 50 W. Randolph.

Delicious DIRT. JUICE

Most Chicagoans have heard of the Hamburger University in Oak Brook, IL, but you may not have heard about Hamburger University in Shanghai. McDonald’s are popping up around China like weeds, and because the Chinese are super diligent and competitive about EVERYTHING, they also turn managing a McDonald’s into sport. Their five-day managerial training course only accepts eight out of every 1000 applicants, and has a lower acceptance rate than Harvard’s, which hovers around 7 percent. Wow!

Our buds over at the Daily Meal revealed what they thought to be the “14 most bank-breaking dishes” here. Do you agree? What foods or menus have you had that required taking out a second mortgage?
